Makerere University to host the 3rd FISU World University Netball Championship 2018.

 

Uganda is hosting the world netball championships through the National University Sports Federation which is an Association of Uganda University Sports [AUUS]. Penina Kabenge the association president being the principal of sports tutors at Makerere University gave the institution mileage in organizing the memorable event.

Students Asked to Pay for Stolen Phones

 

 

KAMPALA - The In-charge of criminal investigations department (CID) at Makerere Police Station has said that a student whose phone gets stolen must again pay Shs 50,000 to get helped by the police.

Detective ASP Jackson Amali told our reporter that police has no money to invest in investigations that require tracking of stolen phones, therefore any student whose phone gets stolen must also pay to facilitate police track down the thief.

Students rise on the inefficiency of the university in service delivery.

Police fired teargas as they conflicted with students at Makerere University, these demand that the tuition policy be revised and their halls renovated.

Barely a month into the semester, students from the different halls of residence staged a demonstration demanding for the fast completion of their hall lavatories and termination of the 15% tuition increment.

Many youths now have mobile phones that they carry with them everywhere. Many Lecturers claim that phones are distracting while students insist that phones are necessary.

Makerere Finally Gets New Fees Policy

After wide consultations between Makerere University council, students' body and the government, the institution has finally adopted a new fees policy.

Under this new policy, students are required to pay Shs 200, 000 with in the first three weeks of every new semester and failure to do so attracts a surcharge of Shs 20,000.

"This money is part of the total fees the student will be required to pay at the end of the semester, so, it's not a separate charge, or an increment," explained the Vice chancellor Prof John Ddumba-Ssentamu.

Tanga Odoi Hires Students To Give Out Makerere admission Letters As Staff Strikes

Tanga Odoi, the chairman of Makerere University Convocation, a body that unites the institution's former students and workers, has hired 30 of the alumni to help the management give out admission letters as the strike for the responsible staff enters day three.

While speaking at a press conference at Makerere University yesterday, Odoi said that the move is for the good of the joining students, the university and the striking staff.
