Makerere Admits 16,000 On Private

The academic registrar Makerere University has relased the private admission lists for the academic year 2016/2017, and freshers are reminded to pick their admission letters next week.

The semester for those admitted on private and governmnent sponsorship schemes will start on Aug 6, while, continuing students will repreport on Aug 15

Makerere Student 'Leaders' Accept Draft Fees Policy,  Propose Minor Changes

The 82nd Makerere University students' guild leadership has, after making minor changes, accepted the proposed fees policy that was put forward for discussion by the search committee.

The proposed policy States that all students should pay a commitment fee of Shs 200,000, within the first two weeks of each semester to enable them register as students of the University. The fee has been maintained by the GRC (Guild Representative Council) members, only that they have proposed a change in the length of period the payment should be done.

Makerere Calls For Public Discussion About Proposed Fees Policy

Makerere University admistractors have called upon the general public and the institution's stakeholders to give in their views about the proposed new fees policy.

Prof Barnabas Nawangwe, the Vice- Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration said the proposed policy has been uploaded to the University's website www.mak.ac.ug to ensure a variety of opinions in the debate so that the policy becomes one that is not imposed, but agreed upon.

The policy is to start working by the beginning of the next academic year 2016/2017

Makerere Proposes New Fees Policy

Following series of violent strikes by students over what they called unfair fees policies, Makerere University administration has moved to put in place a new policy.

While speaking at a press conference from the senior common room of the main building at Makerere University on Friday, the deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance and Administration), Prof Barnabas Nawangwe said that this policy aims at benefiting the students and the university.

Makerere's Journalism and Communication student laid to rest amidst sorrow, tears

It was sorrow and tears as Journalism and Communication students of Makerere University bade farewell to their course mate Charity Komuhangi, who was a fourth year student.

Komuhangi was laid to rest on Friday at her ancestral home in Kitimba Village near Katobo Trading Center, Nyakagyeme Sub County, Rujumbura County in Rukungiri District, South Western Uganda. She was survived by her 2-year-old baby boy.

#SaveAbdul: Makerere Student Seeks Shs 3m For Tumour Surgery

Abdul Mazinga, a fourth-year student of Journalism and Communication at Makerere University is in quest for Shs 2.5m for a tumor Surgery, which when left, doctors say, will degenerate into throat cancer.

Mazinga, who is supposed to graduate next year in January, may not make it to the graduation list for did not do his final course projects after spending the last half of the final semester in the hospital, undergoing a surgery which turned out to be unsuccessful. The surgerywas meant to treat a tumor on his salivary gland, which doctors now say should be treated immediately.

Makerere students complete over 100 courses in Oil research

The first batch of Masters Students from Makerere University have completed over 100 courses in the International Petroleum Industry multimedia system (IPIMS). 
The system that was provided by International Human Resources Development Corporation (IHRDC) and AH Consulting partnership in with the University, started in June last year with a total of six students, all of whom have been able to complete the certificate course.
