Richard Sebuganda alias Sebzo, a student of Bachelor of Biomedical Science at Makerere University who was injured by a teargas canister during the ‘open for all’ students protest has escaped from Mulago hospital where he has been getting treatment for his injured hand.

It is alleged that he fled the hospital in the wee hours of the night on Thursday, 10th March 2022, and his whereabouts remain unknown.

From Sebuganda's posts on his Whatsapp status, it is pertinent to acknowledge that he is in pain and he needs attention. He posted on Thursday morning at a time he is believed to have gone missing that ‘death ain’t suffering'. Previously, he had wished to be dead as he complained of the endless surgeries on his Whatsapp status, giving friends and relatives more reasons to worry.

One of our sources claims that he found him furious and frustrated before he went missing.

“I found him furious and tried to calm him down. Before I could know, the doctors spoke to me arrogantly and foolishly saying they would even take him to Kiruddu...if he was not careful because they are just trying to assist him. He is currently rotting and helpless,” out source intimated.

Sebuganda reportedly went missing at around 4am on Thursday morning and the family and friends have began a hunt to trace his current whereabout.

However, attempts to speak to the family or the doctors were futile.

In the resolutions that were agreed upon by the University management and the student leadership, the University pledged to support Sebuganda. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe even visited him in hospital.

Sebuganda was harmed by a teargas canister that was allegedly shot into his room on 8th February 2022 as police calmed down the ‘open for all’ students riot, spearheaded by the Makerere University Guild President, Shamim Nambasa.
