Classes resume at Social Sciences
Studies have today resumed at the School of Social Sciences following a 5-day strike by lecturers over arrears, worth over Shs. 500m.
The strike was called off on Monday following a meeting between the Vice Chancellor, and the school staff and students representatives.
Though the lecturers agreed to go back to class, it was not clear when they would receive their arrears.
“The lecturers are going to be paid as the university gets money,” Hasifa Kabeja, the College Spokesperson said in a telephone interview.
On the issue of the secession from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, a committee would be formed to review and come up with recommendations about the system’s working.
Meanwhile, work on the Mazruian Building, to which lecturers from all university units had contributed money but has never been built, will start in October using money from the African Development Bank.
