Makerere University Public Relations Officer Ritah Namisango has said that the University Council has not suspended the tuition fees payment policy as earlier communicated by the students’ leaders.

 “The makerere university council has endorsed the extension of the deadline for payment of fees and registration. For semester1, 2015/2016 Academic year, payment will be effected until the 12^th week of the semester,” Namisango said in a press statement today evening.

Makerere University administrators yesterday held an emergency meeting where they extended the tuition payment deadline to the 12th week from the 6th week of the semester.

The guild president, H.E Bala David Bwiruka  said, "Gallant Makerereans, I am just from an emergency meeting with the IGP and the University administration. They have offered to suspend the tuition payment deadline to the 12th week, 2 weeks more than they had earlier extended it. It should be noted that this is just a temporary measure...”

Makerere university students are not yet ready to give up on their demand to have the 100% tuition policy completely scrapped off, which sparked a fresh demonstration since yesterday night.
