The Makerere University hospital has installed the Biometric attendance machine to solve worker absenteeism and leisurely departures and arrivals.

The machine was procured and installed early this semester using the 15 percent tuition increment on the first year students' medical fees. The machine has been put at the hospital entrance and works by detecting the worker's thumb on the biometric.

The Editor of the Makererean who was recently suspended by Makerere University, Frank Bwambale says his suspension is unfair and a sign of cowardice by the university.

"The whole logic behind my suspension is to do with censorship of my communication, where the administration wants stories that sell the image of the University," said Bwambale.

Samuel Asiku

A 25-year-old man who has been deaf all his life says he endured some form of bullying from people who had difficulties communicating with him.

Samuel Asiku, now a student at Immanuel Bible Training Centre for the Deaf located in Makerere, says he faced all kinds of emotional abuse while still young.

 “Everyone shouted at me in order to make me ‘understand’ what they were communicating,” Asiku explains.

Uganda came from behind to beat the defending champions South Africa in the International University Sports Federation (FISU) World University Netball Championships finals at Makerere University.

Uganda claimed victory on Friday night with a narrow goal difference of 44 – 43 in the tension packed game that sealed the weeklong tournament that attracted seven teams.
