How Students Patronise MAK Internet Hot Spots

Free WiFi provided by Makerere has had students hooked onto internet around the university campus daily.

Many students in the university are seen crowded around WiFi hot spots in the campus to access the internet. Some of these spots include Linksys inside the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS) building near the Journalism lab; near Lecture Room 6, in the Social Sciences building; MAKAIR in and around halls of residence; and WiFi at different colleges and schools.

Police Warns Against Drug Abuse

Police in Kikoni suburb has issued a notice about use and abuse of drugs among the university students.

Francis Muhakanise, the assistant Officer in-Charge of Kikoni Police Post, says five students of Makerere University were recently caught taking drugs and others having them in their bags behind Caltec Academy sports ground in Kikoni. Some were found sniffing petrol from a small bottle. He said these suspects will tell the police the origin of these drugs and who supplies them.

Student residents at Makerere International Students Hostel (MISH) are bitter following a decision by the management to abolish cooking inside the rooms following a recent fire outbreak.

Hostel administrators claim that the fire outbreak on October 11, which destroyed one of the rooms, was sparked off by a gas cooker. Two students --Aijuka Moureen and Apedat Brenda--were both rushed to the hospital and treated for shock after the fire outbreak on the 3rd floor in room M3-10 in which they resided.
