The issue of supplementary examinations is back on the table for discussion at Makerere where the student leadership sees it as the best way for the university administration to help finalists who still have papers to retake.

 A student who has failed a paper would ideally have to wait for one academic year until when the failed paper is taught again. Because of this, hundreds of students fail to graduate on time.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Barnabas Nawangwe has launched the University championship Rugby 7s tournament at Makerere Impis Rugby Grounds popularly known as the Graveyard.

The games which are organised by the Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU) in conjunction with Uganda’s Rugby Federation have commenced today and will close tomorrow, Sunday.

Makerere University are the winners of the 2019 Inter-university Quiz, an annual event organized to engage university students in Uganda in answering different contentious questions covering different issues at home and around the world.

The event, hosted by Makerere University today at Freedom Square, attracted participants from institutions such as Kyambogo University, YMCA and International University of East African (IUEA).

Nabweru Town Council has embarked on its development projects through constructing roads and water trenches as a measure to minimize the problem of floods in the area of Kazo.

Kazo, located in Nabweru Division, Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District, has witnessed heavy rains that caused floods from the start of September. Rains put the lives of some of Nabweru residents at stake as they leave them homeless and desperate.

Freedom Square, which was once a perfectly green field is now riddled with large patches of mud, coursed through by tire tracks, following the Friday 11th economics exhibition.

The Square, till Monday afternoon, also remained littered with sheer amounts of disposables from the same event. This look, according to several students diminished its symbolic and historical significance while painting a bad image of the University management.

The contest seeks to explore students' ability to conceptualize their social ventures in Information Technology. It also challenges students to step outside of their traditional University based academic work and use their education, passion and skills to solve problems in their society.

Students residing in Mary Stuart Hall have raised concerns about what they call the deteriorating sanitary conditions in the residence.

The students have complained about the bathrooms, toilets and drainage system at the oldest girls’ hall of residence at Makerere.  

Catherine Nasonko, who has lived in Mary Stuart for two years, says the bathrooms are cleaned only once a day, “but since we are so many it is not long before they get dirty and I mean really dirty.”

Makerere students are still in shock a day after one of their own drowned at university swimming pool on Sunday.

At the time of his death, Uwimpuhwe James, a Rwandan national, was a second year student of Arts in Arts (BARS) at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
