Out of the blue, I wake up one morning feeling a really strange pain in my feet. It was as though my feet had been electrified. I tried to brush it off, but the pain worsened.

I salute all my brothers and sisters both actively and passively involved in this notorious faction of the economy. This sector is so big that Mulago Hospital spends Shs1.5 billion on treating boda boda patients each year. On-the-road actors in Kampala alone outnumber Makerere University students by far.

All is set for this year’s Annual Media Convention (AMC) scheduled for Thursday 31st and Friday 1st November at Fairway Hotel in Kampala.

An intense scandal that happened in the United Kingdom, 9,867 km from Uganda, sent waves across the journalism world with effects that are to be far reaching. The News International phone-hacking scandal was one involving News of the World and other British newspapers published by News International, a subsidiary of News Corporation. In 2011, it was found that one or more employees of these newspapers hacked into Milly Dowler’s phone (a murdered teenager) to get a story to run.

Makerere University’s ranking has improved from 12th in Africa in 2011 to 9th in 2012 according to the Scimago Institutions Ranking (SIR) World Report 2012 . Makerere is the only institution in Uganda that featured in the ranking and is competing with directly-funded Institutions from South Africa, Nigeria and Tunisia.

It is a bright sunny afternoon on Tuesday, 11th December 2012 at the Makerere University Hospitaland a few hours away from the official launch of the Safe Male Circumcision (SMC) services by the U.S. Ambassador to Uganda H.E. Scott DeLisi. Under a semi-permanent structure at the back of the facility, a few young men and adult males are gathered and listening intently to a facilitator as she briefs them about SMC and post-surgery care.
