Basena succeeded Wasswa Bbosa and agreed a three-year contract with the club, being appointed by the interim committee of William Nkemba.

However, early poor performances and relegation struggles saw the former UPDF tactician terminating the contract.

In his reign as the Blues manager, Basena has had a winless run of eight games registering four draws and losing on the remaining four occasions.
