Uganda has on Monday, and for the very first time, started vaccination against the deadly Ebola haemorrhagic fever (EHF) as a preventive measure against the disease that has ravaged neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

A according to Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, the Health minister, a total of 3000 Ugandans are to benefit from the from the vaccination process.

Key place are those bordering DRC including Bunyangabo, Bundibugyo, Ntoroko, Kasese and Kabaraole.

This vaccine is already being used in DRC where Ebola has claimed more than 150 people and Uganda being at a high risk of attaining the disease, vaccination is to be administered as a method of prevention against it.

Dr Aceng, said only healthcare and frontline workers in the five high risk border districts who are prone to infection with the virus will receive the rVSV vaccine, started on Monday.

 “As a neighbour to the DRC, Uganda is on high alert due to the high risk of the Ebola threat,” Dr Aceng said on Friday.
Dr Aceng also reiterated that there is no confirmed Ebola case in the country.
