Ankole Lions settle for Kavumba Stadium

Mbarara City FC has finally been allowed into the 2018/19 Startimes Uganda Premier League following an appeal to the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) top committee to lift their suspension.

The Ankole Lions have therefore been cleared by the committee after securing Kavumba Recreation Stadium as their venue to host home matches as demanded by FUFA licensing board to acquire a license.

Hon. Mwiine Mpaka, Mbarara City FC chairman said, “We have chosen to use Kavumba Stadium as an alternative as we continue to advocate for refurbishment of Kakyeka Stadium with grass, dressing rooms and building of the internal perimeter fence.”

He added that Mbarara City football club has no powers to refurbish Kakyeka stadium because it fully belongs to the Municipal Council authorities hence the delay in clearance but appealed to the fans to keep calm, flexible and bear with the inconveniences caused.

FUFA Chief Executive Officer, Edgar Watson said that Mbarara City FC will be allowed to use Kavumba Recreation Stadium for the first half of the league and will return to Kakyeka stadium after refurbishment.

The Ankole Giants will however, delay to host their first match game against Express FC when the league officially kicked off on Friday to enable the league organizing committee to include it on seasonal fixtures. It will play its first match game on Tuesday against Ndejje University.
