MAKERERE UNIVERSITY SCRAPS SWIMMING POOL CHARGES

Makerere University has scrapped fees for the swimming pool for students. With the one thousand Ugandan shillings previously charged for a student to swim, all it takes now is a valid Makerere University identity card for swimming enthusiasts to access the facility.
The news of the University Council decision to scrap off swimming charges from students came in with a lot of excitement. Opolot Daniel, a second year student pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Education said ‘’this is so great, I will swim any time minus being limited by the previous charges".
One pool attendant who preferred anonymity revealed that the number of students going to the swimming pool has increased.
However, one Bachelor of Sports Science student who preferred his identity is kept tolad journalism@mak that the increasing number of students has affected their practice as they are interrupted while putting in practice what they are taught.
Brian Nsubuga, the acting University Sports Tutor said that the move has no negative effectson the management of the pool since the university has taken over the obligation of buying necessary equipment and other necessities like chemicals used in running and maintaining the swimming pull.
He further confirmed that access is free to Makerere students, and he encouraged them to utilize the facility that is located a few meters away from the Guild Canteen and opposite the School of Gender.
