Makerere admits 40 on government sponsorship for bachelor of laws
Submitted by Christopher Tusiime on
Makerere on Tuesday June 6 released admission lists for 40 students who have been awarded government sponsorship to study bachelor of laws.
Of these, 38 are from direct entry (senior six leavers) while 2 are from mature-age entry.
According to the the list, Kings College Buddo topped with nine while Uganda Martyrs, Namugongo came second with five students. St Mary's College, Kisubi had three.
Of the admitted students, 18 are females while the rest are male. When compared with last year's admission, there has been a decline by 11 students.
Makerere University in 2012 changed its criteria of admitting students for bachelor of laws. Before, students would be admitted basing on their performance at senior six performance.
However, in subsequent years, all those interested in doing law have been getting subjected to law pre-entry exams, a move that has drawn mixed reactions from the public with some saying it does not result in proper assessment of students capability.
