President Museveni has this evening given a directive to close Makerere University indefinitely "to guarantee safety of persons and their property".

In the same directive that this website has seen, Museveni premised his directive on section 26(2) of the Universities and other Tertiary Institutions of 2001 as amended.

The University management has not yet given a communication about this, but since the president is supreme, then the institution in closed as he has directed.

Students haven't also given their stand yet, but during their strike yesterday, they invaded the nearby area of Kikoni where they burnt down property worth millions.
