The vice chancellor of Makerere University, Prof John Ddumba-Ssentamu, has asked students to report to his office lecturers who are missing classes.

While speaking to Journalism@mak on phone, Prof Ddumba-Ssentamu said, as a vice chancellor, he will he will not spare any of the lecturers or instructors who perpetually dodge classes, once he receives their names.

"I appeal to students to bring me those names [of lecturers who are dodging] and I will take action. I personally can't look for them... when a lecturer misses coming to class, don't keep quiet, just come to me," he said.

He made the comment following threats from students that they will soon stage a strike, decrying the act of some lecturers who have, according to students, made it part of their lives to dodge classes.

According to Makerere University Academic Staff Association (Muasa) chairman, Dr Muhammad Kiggundu, the status quo, of not teaching evening and weekend students, remains.

On Monday, lecturers at Uganda's oldest university made the resolution following the alleged failure by the institution to pay their incentives totalling to Shs 46bn.

The management of Makerere and the lecturers met today to forge a way forward but unfortunately no resolution was made as the chairman university council, Dr Charles Wana-Etyem failed to turn up. The meeting was postponed to a yet to be confirmed day
