Makerere University to Hold a Memorial Mass for Murdered Student

Makerere University Journalism and Communication department has finally accepted to take part in the campaign to raise funds to finish the grave of the fallen journalism student Esther Nakitende.
The campaign dubbed #LegacyEsther was launched by the Makerere University Journalism and Communication students Association (MUJCA) president Aggrey Nyondwa on 3rd November, 2015.
According Nyondwa, there will be a memorial service at St. Francis Chapel Makerere that will be open to all students and staff.
“We will have a service at St. Francis chapel from 12:00 to 2:00 on 17th December,” he said.
Nyondwa added that there will be a retreat to Semuto Kangave in Nakaseke district at the home of the late Esther Nakitende on 19th December at 10:00 to inspect the ongoing construction of the fallen student’s grave.
The MUJCA finance minister Lyn Tukei appreciated the contributions made towards the drive, “we have over one million shillings and as the association are grateful to those who contributed.”
Mr. Ivan Lukanda, a lecturer at the department said they as the staff are going to give support towards the campaign; “we are glad that we will have a memorial service in St Francis chapel and we will give support towards #LegacyEsther.”
Derrick Ddumba a friend to the late Esther said that it will be a day to celebrate her life; “Esther was so dear to everyone and that’s why we will have pay tribute to her as we celebrate her life.”
Esther Nakitende was a third year Bachelor of Journalism and Communication and served as the chief coordinator on the Makerere University Journalism and Communication students’ Association (MUJCA). She was murdered by her cousin brother Buule Robinson. Esther was buried on 2nd November, 2015.
