Makerere bags five Inter-Institutional media challenge awards

Makerere University bagged five awards at the recently concluded inter-institutional media challenge (IMC) held on October 8th.

The awards were in the categories of best feature story, best Luganda business reporter, best technology reporter, best health reporter and best camera.

The competition which took place at the conference hall of the president’s office in Kampala was graced by 10 other institutions which included Multi-tech, Uganda Christian University (UCU), and Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), Kampala University (KU), Mutesa Royal University and Cavendish University.

The other institutions that participated are Ndejje University, Buganda Royal University, Uganda Media Consultants and Trainers (UMCAT) and Merithorous Biz-tech.

Steven Mayombwe, the Makerere Student who won best technology reporter said that despite the challenges the Makerere team faced, this was a worthwhile event.

“I was not happy that we were not voted overall best news team though everything we did pointed to it but at least it helped us gauge our performance against other institutions,” Mayombwe said.

The overall award for best reporters and best Luganda and English news team and was taken by UMCAT and UCU.

This year’s IMC was organized by Global Media Enterprise alongside sponsors like NTV Uganda, Jude Color Solutions and the Ministry of Information and National Guidance.

All the participating institutions were tasked to a full news anchoring challenge plus a writing and photography challenge centering on child poverty.

The Makerere students who participated in the challenge are Douglas Ssebamala, Zahra Abdul, Rogers Kalema, Joyce Namitala, Steven Mayombwe, Julius Nabulere, Copriano Lutaaya, Kulifu Lukwago, Mudashiru Govule, Gladys Naava, Mutebi Kalema, and Clare Muhindo among others.
