The highly anticipated annual big ideas contest has been launched yet again at Makerere University.

The contest seeks to explore students' ability to conceptualize their social ventures in Information Technology. It also challenges students to step outside of their traditional University based academic work and use their education, passion and skills to solve problems in their society.

The 2019 Big Ideas Contest is open to all enrolled undergraduate and graduate students at the university.

Phillip Denny, the Director of Big Ideas, says Makerere will join 12 other universities in this year's contest. He also says that the applicants should make proposals on the capacity of technology to solve the problems in fields like workforce development, global health, food and agriculture, financial inclusion, energy and resources, education and literacy, cities and communities.

Students who seek to participate ought to have submitted their three page pre-proposal application by November 20, 2019 via the online platform on http://bigideascontest.org.

Since its founding in 2006, in the USA, Big Ideas has worked with and supported students come up with innovative and high-impact projects aimed at solving community problems.
