A visitor to Kawempe government hospital is ushered by a strong stench.

The smell, which stems from the septic tank at the facility, has persisted despite calls to find a long-lasting solution to manage the overflowing sewage.

The Sawage that flows to the nearby communities has equally frustrated the business communities creating a financial crisis.

According to Ms Mercy Namuli a cashier at Deli's Fast Foods, the stench from this sewage discourages customers from buying food at their place citing cholera related effects.

“We used to make at least Shs 2, 000,0000 but since this sewage problem started, sales keep on decreasing day by day and now we cannot go beyond shs1,000,000,” Namuli told this website.

According to Simon Mugenyi, a medical expert also working at Twins Medical Center, the sewage has not only taken away customers but it’s very dangerous to patients and other Kawempe residents.

He explained that despite several engagements with Kawempe Hospital authorities, management has remained reluctant on the issue.

John Baptist Ebaat, the Hospital administrator confirmed that residents have petitioned his office on the escalating sewage flow he said efforts are underway to rectify the issue.

"Sewage renovations is going on and pipes are being fixed so we can connect to the main sewer line.  This renovation is going to take us two months to accomplish and the issue will be no more,” Mr Ebaat said.

He however, apologized to the business community near the health facility  and assured that once they connection is complete, the situation will be back to normal.
