Makerere mourns legendary innovator, Dr Musaazi

Makerere- The Makerere unity community has Wednesday paid tribute to the fallen Ugandan innovator Dr. Moses Kizza Musaazi who succumbed to Lung cancer on Tuesday 18.

Makerere Vice Chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe has also described the late Dr. Musaazi as one of the most illustrious academics to ever serve this great institution [Makerere University].

“Our heartfelt consideration goes out to the family upon the loss of a loving Husband, Father, Mentor, Son, and dear friend. Please accept our sincere condolences. We commit you to God our Father, who alone knows the plans He has for each and every one of us,” Prof Nawangwe said.

Dr. Musaazi has been renowned for innovation of MakPads sanitary pads which to date are the only chemical-free, biodegradable, disposable ones available on the market.

“Dr. Musaazi was a man of many gifts, all carefully veiled in his humble, down-to-earth nature. As a serial inventor, he turned the most pressing needs of poor communities and large-scale businesses alike into creative holistic innovations. He demystified complex societal problems with turn-key solutions that sought to leave no waste and almost no need unmet,” the Vice-Chancellor added.

Ms. Ritah Namisango said on Thursday morning that burial arrangements will be announced later.

Musaazi has been the Managing Director of Technology for Tomorrow Limited (T4T), a Uganda-based company that innovates and promotes Appropriate Technologies (AT) that solves societal problems in the developing countries.

He is renowned for his innovation of MakPads sanitary pads which to date are the only chemical-free, biodegradable, disposable ones available on the market.

Besides, Musaazi has been a Makerere lecturer since 1985 and a practicing Electrical Engineer.

He worked for GEC (Controls & Projects) as a design engineer from 1977-1979.

The legend holds a BSc in Electrical Engineering from Makerere University, an MSc and Ph.D., as well as two DIC’s from the Imperial College of Science, Technology, and Medicine of the University of London.

In 2013, Dr. Musaazi received an Empowering People Global Innovations Award in neighboring Kenya for his innovation that had gained popularity for championing efforts to have the girl child remain in school.

Dr. Musaazi has been fighting with Lung cancer for some time, and in August this year, he searched for financial support to facilitate his treatment from abroad.
