The minister of Education and Sports, who is also the First Lady Ms Janet Kataaha Museveni has assuredly said that Makerere University will open tomorrow.

While addressing a section of students at the Prime Minister's Office on Monday, Ms Museveni said she had agreed with the University council.

" I want to thank you students for having turned up peacefully to meet me and we resolve this issue of national importance....the University Council has assured me that Makerere is opening tomorrow," said Ms Museveni

The students who met with the minister argued that It was unfair for students to be denied the right to education.

Makerere University managenent had earlier communicated to public that the campus had been closed until further notice.

The decision followed a sit down strike that was staged by the non-teaching staff who are still demanding salary arrears and increment which totals to Shs 56 billion.

The strike now enters the third week, and it remains to be seen how the university will fully operate without the input of the support staff who vowed to keep on strike until they are fully paid.

Efforts to get a comment from the university council are still fruitless but, we shall keep you updated.
