A thief caught stealing car parts at Makerere Univeristy today afternoon survived being beaten to death by angry students.

A one Raymond Makumbi,  who is a resident of Bakuli, Kampala was arrested after Grace Nankya rose an alarm to students that Makumbi,  who was fleeing from the car park, was a thief.

The incident took place at Lincoln Flats opposite College Of Computing and Information Sciences.

Students, who were coming from CoCIS, swung into action and engulfed Makumbi who was running Southwards to Univeristy Hall.

"I found him opening the bonnet of my car, and when he saw me with the keys, he said sorry and walked away," Nankya narrated.

She added that when she tried following him, Makumbi took to his heels, which triggered suscipicion in her that he was a thief.

Students, who quickily  'armed' themselves with tree branches and stones clobbered Makumbi as they drugged him through the tarmac to the police station.

"These are among the Kifesi robbers who steal our laptops and also murder us," cried one of the students.

Olol Genaro, who is a security guard at Lincoln flats, said that he had seen the same person a day before standing near cars parked infront of the buildid. Lincoln flats houses the studios of Campus FM and several other offices for lecturers.

The OC CID Makerere University police post, chelimo Robert, asked students to remain calm as they handle the case, adding that thieves who enter the university risk theier life because students can easily kill them.

Last year, David Ojok, who was a former student at the Univeristy was stonned to death at Nkrumah hall after students supsected him to be a thief.
