The bodies of three Ugandan policemen killed
on Lake Albert along the Democratic Republic of
Congo (DRC) border over the weekend have
been handed over to Ugandan authorities in
West Nile yesterday afternoon.

Initial reports indicated that four police officers
had been killed. However, it was later confirmed
that only three officers were killed.

They include Moses Ocen a constable from Apac, Farouq
Waiswa, a sergeant from Bugiri and Bernard
Isingoma, a constable from Hoima district.

Corporal Biral Obara, who was suspected to be
among the dead, survived the incident because
he was had travelled to Nebbi district to receive
treatment.

Josephine Angucia, the West Nile regional police commander said that the bodies have been transported to Kampala from where, they will be handed over to relatives for burial.

"We are here to receive the bodies of our
officers killed on Lake Albert. This is all I can
say for now, we are in Goli in Nebbi district,''
Angucia said.

Meanwhile, police in Ntoroko district have also received some of the items that the slain
officers were using at the time of their murder.

Other items recovered include the uniforms
worn by the officers at the times of their death,
4 magazines, 12 guns and magazine porches
that were handed over to Dennis Namuwoza the
Rwenzori regional police commander.

Also recovered is a marine police boat
numbered UP0806. It was riddled with bullet
marks including two bullet holes that ran.
