Buddo SS Set to Celebrate Silver Jubillee
Submitted by Christopher Tusiime on
Its 8:40am on a sunny Monday and I'm stationed at the main gate of Buddo Secondary School. I'm welcomed by the gate's catchy artistic writings: "Welcome to Buddo SS; The struggle continues".
After entering the gate, and checked by a smiling askari who also asks me to sign in the visitors book, something looks new. When I left this school two years back, I didn't leave this magnificent building, but I head straight to the Headmaster's office, Lawrence Muwonge, a Peter pan.
Seeing me with a note book and a pen, smiling Muwonge cordially greets me and instictively knows that I'm a journalist. After my reply he moves a head to break the news to me: " It's my honour to announce to you that Buddo SS is celebrating 25 years of existence and providing quality education to children in Uganda. This will take place on July 16."
Being a former students, I'm overjoyed by the announcement as Muwonge goes ahead to add: "we have already put up a building to commemorate the 25 years and it's called the "Silver jubilee block" and it's right at the entrance of the main gate. It's going to be a class room block housing four classes of four streams."
Built in 1991, the school is located near Kisozi Trading Center, Wakiso district, and is accessed by branching off from Kampala-Masaka road and taking Buddo-Nagalabbi route. It's a mixed boarding school, and proud of her achievements.
"Buddo SS has over the years, as one of the best schools around East Africa, produced students that have brought Uganda onto another level, including Politicians, Journalists accountants and other scholars in various fields," Says Muwonge. "Passing through such a training institute is a big blessing that should always be recognised."
As we talk, bells for changing lessons can be heard ringing. Some students are seen moving in the compound in groups of about three to seven. Its break time, Muwonge tells me.
ACADEMIC PROGRESS
Muwonge, who is also the founder of the school, attributes the school's continued existence and academic progress to administrative, social, religious, finanancial strategies as well as continental work planing.
He says that the school's founders are very professional and consistent to educational goals and values and making sure that a school remains a school and works as a team for the people, parents and all the stake holders because they feel comfortable and well accommodated and this involves in making sure the school prospers.
"Our vision and the mission makes sure we produce all round education which is unique compared to other schools. It considers more of academic excellence and leaves no stone unturned to make sure that all students excel and acquire high quality man power because of the determined teaching staff," Muwonge says, adding that students themselves are well disciplined and work very hard to archive their best
Francis Ssengaba is an O level Biology teacher. He recalls that since he joined the school, providing knowledge that will see all students succeed in his subject has always been part of his life.
"I'm assuring Ugandans that top academic achivements, like high percentage of 1st grades, more A’s in biology, are from from Buddo SS," Ssengaba says, but reminds us of team work as a key to getting the best from students.
MOTIVATED STAFF
Ssengaba adds that because they are well rumunarated, and the school administration motivates them, they are always compelled to give students the best.
"Buddo SS is another home for children as we take them as humans, that’s to say, their physical welfare, psychological and so much more," He says, adding that parents should be assured of maximum care once they take there their children.
As for Juma Tamale, one of the non-stuff teaching members, the school makes him feel they are brothers and sisters because of the respect It gives to everybody inside her gates, and hence, he does his routines minus being reminded, something that makes Buddo so different.
Isaac Lumago, a parents who has been taking his children to Buddo since 2003, can't thank the school administration enough. "Ever since I started bringing my children here, I haver regretted and have never got any hardships, as many have come out as journalists, engineers and others in various professions.
Though I didn't talk to any students as they were already in class by the time we finished the interview, Muwonge asked me to return on the jubilations days and interact with as many asbi can. I told him I'm going back
But before I move out, he calls me back for a reminder: "At Buddo SS, the sky is the limit.
