A big number of Makerere University students turned out to watch the opening ceremony and other matches at the World University Netball Championships.

"We thought students would not turn up this much due to the previous strikes that were taking place the whole of last week and we thought these seats will be enough. But to our surprise, students have turned up in big numbers," said one of the organizers who preferred anonymity because he was not mandated to speak to the media.

According to the security officer Ajor Simon, they could not manage the big number of students who were pushing each other at the entrance.

He further said that students were allowed in without checking because it would take long since the students were many.

"I have come to cover the story because I am a Journalism student, and to enjoy the Ndeka dancing troupe; so it is a double gain for me," said Crystal Bulungi.

"I have come to enjoy myself because I love sports and I am also happy that we are having this tournament in my country," said Martha Namubiru, another student.
