Following today's suspension of the strike by non-teaching staff, the Makerere Univerity Council has announced the official opening dates of the campus

The chairperson  university concil, Eng Dr Charles Wana-Etyem said that all students, both continuing and first years will report this coming weekend, and all the staff shoudl report to work immediately.

"First year students shall report on Saturday 20th Aug 2016; all continuing students shall report on 21st Aug 2016," Wana-Etyem said during a press conference at Makerere Univerity today.

He added that semester one academic year 2016/2017 shall end on Dec 17 instead of Dec 10 as earlier scheduled.

The acting Guild president Jothan Burobuto thanked the non-teaching staff for calling off their strike to enable students access education.

Makerere and other public univerities were closed on Aug 1 by non-teaching staff who are still demanding arrears and salary enhancements from governement totaling to Shs 41bn. The president yesterday promised the staff that their money will be paid in the second quater which will start in October.
