By venturing in eco-friendly businesses, a section of emerging entrepreneurs at the College of Business and Management Sciences (COBAMS) believe they can save the environment from degradation and pollution.

Linden Namata, a second year student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and doubling as the innovator of JEL D ECO-SOLUTIONS, a business that has ventured into making various products like trash cans out of empty plastic bottles, believes that with this, the number of plastic littered in her community will reduce. ‘‘I believe in a clean environment and my business will reduce the amount of plastic bottles thrown around,’’ she told journalism@mak.

Shadia Ndagire, who has seen herself make chairs and flower vessels from car tyres says that she picked her idea from the scenes of student strikes where car tyres were being burnt. ‘’I witnessed students burn car tyres during strikes but I felt that they can be of a great use to us,’’ Ndagire says.

Dr. Eria Hisali, the Principal of COBAMS was impressed by the innovations from his students. “I am happy that my students have created items in line with our theme, ‘unlocking the students potential’, I appreciate the great brains behind this,’’ Dr Hisali remarked.

The expo that was organised by COBAMS management in partnership with the New Vision and Pakasa Forum took place at Freedom Square, Makerere University.
