Wrap up of Makerere guild presidential campaigns

At the last rally yesterday, some of the Makerere guild presidential contestants summarised their manifestos as below with each of them trying to use the most pursuasive langague, there exists.

Mandela Nkunda took the podium first. He is the NRM flag-bearer, and he called upon students to vote him, saying that he is the only capable person who will solve problem of missing marks that affecst most of the students, resulting to some of them not graduating.

Simon Ssenyonga's message was about his ability to make a difference in Makerere structural systems, and priotising students' grievances so so as to a ensure a harmonious Mekerere with both the administrators and studensts, happy.

Ismail Kasozi, also known as 'Rastafarian', explained that his presence in the race is as result of urgent need to liberate students from issues that negatively affect them. He said: "I have never surrendered, and my haters should stop spreading rumors..." He added that his capability should not be judged by looking at his plaited hair because it is what is inside the head that matters, and not what is on top.

Brain Nasala’s message to the studenst was about rectifying the administrative system, which he said, is not living to its core values of serving students effectively. He said that Makerere deserves a decisive and dependable leader, and he is that leader.

Shafic Kalyango asked students not to keep silent on issues that affect them, such as; missing marks, sex for marks by lecturers and poor health. He added that he is the only reliable person who will work for students’ welfare.

Fred Luyinda, popularized by his dancehall song Luyinda Fred can do, can do, can do, urged students to avoid putting too much excitement in voting for a guild president because too much excitement will led them into voting for a wrong person. He said he is the only candidate, who when elected, can steer Makerere to greater heights.

Roy Ssemboga, using a medical language, exclaimed that: “the problem of Makerere is multiple organ failure starting from the Electoral Commission to administration.” Saying this, he said was referring to lecturers who ask for sex from female students in exchange for marks, dodge lectures, among other evils. He said that students should put him in office, come Friday, so that he can fight all these evils that affect students directly

The final speaker was to be Bazil Mwotta, though he did not get the chance of stepping on the podium to address students as his supporters carried him sky-high till the end of the rally. He, from the ‘sky’, promised to address all the issues affecting the students as soon as he steps into the guild office

other candidate did not turn up, though they are stil in the race.

Elections are today, March 11, and voting started at 8:00 a.m
