The New Formation led by Rtd Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu targets to recruit 20,000 members by Christmas of this year. This according to a top mobilizer of the group, Alice Alaso.

Alaso, also a former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Secretary General, made the remarks during a meeting held at Sharing Hall, Nsambya in Kampala.

She said the promoters' meeting is to allow them know who is committed to the New Formation political agenda.

"We are here to forge a new better future, by giving ourselves a working framework that will lead us to the formation of a new political party come December 2018," she said.

Alaso added that their first priority is to discuss their political party draft constitution, by involving all active members because previous political party constitutions were created by top party leadership, without involving grassroot leadership.

"Our party constitution will be the first of its kind in the history of Uganda, whose formation involves the participation of grassroot leadership," said Alaso. She also tasked each of the New Formation promoters to recruit at least 50 members from their sub regions.

Muntu on his part said their political party will be built on a "hard rock", that will be devoid of individual monopoly and all forms of sectarian tendencies.

"We should create a value based political party but not an individual based one. This will be through institutionalization and not personalization," he said.

The promoters at the meeting were drawn from all sub-regions of Uganda, with Teso sub-region fielding in majority participants.

Hellen Grace Amajo, one of the promoters who attended the meeting from Serere district, disclosed that she is ready to stand besides Alaso and work hand in hand with her to ensure she draws other people from several villages to support the new party.
