Makerere students dealing in tyre recycling, making products such as tables, chairs and stools out of used car tyres, emerged among the best entrepreneurs to compete in the Sawa World video competition. These are Isaiah Sserwadda, Dickson Nasasira and Anabell Musiimire, all in second year.

According to Isaiah Sserwadda, the production manager at Tyre Recycling Company Limited, their project interested the Sawa World and they were nomitted in the Sawa World Day global video competition. They made it to the top 10 and they are waiting for judges to decide on which group will win the $1,000 prize.

“We had 17,000 visitors, 8,300 people voted and 66 youth submitted their 1-minute video with local ideas to help unemployed youth. These students emerged the second most voted out of the ten submitted videos. Nine global judges will now screen the ten videos with the most votes and on November 17th, the three winners will be announced on the Sawa Word Day Global Video Competition,” Duncan Ssenoga, staff and team leader at Sawa World told journalism@mak.

“We make products from old car tyres which saves our environment from pollution when they are burnt and we employ fellow youths. We have improved on our skill and we have made many more products to showcase on the final day and we are sure we are to be among the best three winners,” Dickson Nasasira said.

However, James Kayijuka, another competitor making beverage cans said, they are also ready to face their fellow competitors and they are ready to take home the prize. They have ready-made products to display on the final day to impress the judges.
