Ssekidde Nicholas, a recently nominated guild presidential candidate into the guild race, by Makerere Electoral Commission, was yesterday barred from address students at Mitchel hall rally by the hall’s cultural leaders over failure to pay “Culture fee"

Ssekidde was cleared to join the guild presidential race on Friday, a week after the campaigns of the other candidates had kicked off. The candidates in the race are now thirteen (13).

Mitchell hall cultural leaders said that it is a custom that every candidate, who goes to their hall to look for votes, pays a prescribed amount of Shs 50,000 (negotiable) as a sign of respect for the hall’s culture.

“Ssekidde is just being big-headed; how could he refuse to pay that little amount of money? We are not going to allow him to address this rally and he has to leave now,” roared an angry student from Mitchell hall.

On Monday, Ssekidde’s supporters were beaten to pulp at Lumumba hall rally, when their candidate turned up late and tried to forcefully enter the tightly guarded Lumumba gates. The supporters were thoroughly beaten by “Gongom Guard Brigade" (GGB).
