Bachelor of Journalism and Communication second year students are excited over the news of extension of the deadline of presenting their stories.

In the watsapp group BJCO Year 2 Day, Mr. Imokola John Baptist, one of the lecturers who teach the course unit News Writing, Reporting and Production 1 (JCO 2103) broke the news indicating the postponement of the period of submitting news stories, which was welcomed by a number of students.

“For people drowning on MV Templar of JCO 2103, the rescue operation has been extended. We shall accept and consider stories received until Friday, 7th December,” he posted in the group.

JCO 2103 is a progressive assessment course in which the best eight stories published by a student on the website journalism@mak are considered. Each story is marked out of 12.5%. However, many students failed to publish this number even by the time of exams, which prompted the lecturers to extend the date of submission to 30th November, 2018.

Unfortunately, there are some students that still failed to submit the required eight stories which put them at a risk of getting retakes. This has again called for the need to shift the deadline to 7th December, 2018 that has left a number of students so relieved.

“I feel excited about this deadline extension for story writing. I have six published stories; I have got a chance to at least write more four stories to make the eight required ones,” says Sydona Nazze, one of the students.

Bob Lubega, another student feels more relieved and promised to write more sports stories to add to the six stories he has published so far.

“I am to write more sports stories to add on the six I have published such that I reach the maximum number required, though at times my stories have been ignored,” he says.

The course unit is meant to train Bachelor of Journalism and Communication students to develop their news reporting and writing skills.

Two lecturers, John Baptist Imokola and Wilson Akiiki Kaija are the ones handling the course unit.
