The national Primary Seven examinations are underway this morning across the Uganda.

After briefing on Friday, November 2, candidates are today set for English and Social Studies followed by Science and Mathematics tomorrow, Tuesday.

Cynthia Madudu, a pupil of St. Francis Primary School Ntinda said that in the briefing most of the teachers were giving them words of encouragement. "They told us not to copy and that we should not fear the papers,” she told Journalism@Mak.

Sister Mary Theresa Kabananura, the head teacher of St. Agnes Primary School Naggalama, said:  "At this point we as teachers feel that we have done our part but now we are leaving the rest to God.”

Naki Joline, a pupil of Shalom Primary School, said that she was more excited for her vacation soon after PLE. 

Oligo Francis, a teacher at Fairways Academy, expressed his concern about the tension some of the pupils are going through but he was glad that the exercise will also come to an end.

A total of 671,923 candidates have been registered to sit the Primary leaving Examinations (PLE) from 13,072 centres around the country. In 2017 the number of registered candidates was 646,041 who sat PLE from 12,751 centres.

On Thursday, just a day before candidates’ briefing, Dan Odongo, the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) Secretary cautioned schools against involvement in any form of malpractice.

Odongo said that, as a measure to guard against malpractice, candidates will use Education Management Information System (EMIS) numbers instead of school names used in the past.
