The Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) candidate in the Makerere guild presidential race, Ms. Sarah Aseru has said she is not NRM, though her father is.

There have been rumours that Aseru, a daughter to State minister for local government, Alex Onzima belongs to the National Resistance Movement just like her father.

Responding to a question from fellow candidate, independent Nicholas Nanyenya, at the Guild Presidential Candidates’ Debate at Makerere University Main Hall, Aseru said that though she has a relationship with NRM, she chose a different path.

“I have a relationship with NRM because I am a daughter to Minister Alex Onzima. That is what he (my father) chose. (For me) I did not choose NRM,” she said.

Aseru beat competition from three contestants to take the UYD flag in the party’s primaries.

The race has attracted 8 candidates and the winner will replace Ms. Ann Adeke to head Makerere’s 80th guild.

There are only six days left to the voting day.
