The office of the Academic Registrar and the board for the School of Computing and Informatics Technology will today Friday, March 7th meet to decide whether Andrew Mujinya, the Forum for Democratic Change candidate is eligible for election as Makerere’s next guild president.

Mujinya’s troubles follow a petition by Lillian Aber, who lost to Mujinya in the quest for the FDC ticket.

The trouble, according to Aber was that Mujinya had a retake and was therefore not fit as for election as guild president as per the rules governing guild elections.

However, Mujinya, a second year student of Computer Science applied to request for a conceded pass in the course unit CSC 1209 in which he had scored a total of 46%.

The Electoral commission had allowed Mujinya to have cleared with the academic registrar by 5pm of the 5th day of March.

Mujinya’s defense
In a letter signed by Dr. Josephine Nabukenya, the dean School of Computing and Informatics Technology dated March 05, that this reporter has seen, Mujinya has no retake and therefore qualifies to stand for election as guild president.

“…….as chairperson for the SCIT board I approved the conceded pass on behalf of the board. This decision will be communicated in the next School Board,” read part of the letter.

This letter was stamped by the office of the academic registrar, as evidence of receipt.

This was not the first time that the Michael Byemero-led commission had extended the deadline for Mujinya to clear his name since the deadline for returning nomination forms expired on Saturday March 01.

Other candidates have been kicked out of the race due to failure to present valid academic credentials. NRM’s Boniface Mbabazi was yesterday arrested for presenting academic papers forged at Nasser Road, a day after he was kicked out of the race for the same reason. Emmanuel
Wanyama Ojambo, Emmanuel Murungi and Faisal Muyiga were also thrown out of the race on Tuesday.

New developments
On Wednesday, Mujinya and his forced their way into the Dagamarskjold rally, prompting both the police and the electoral commission to call it off.

The elections to replace Ann Adeke are slated for March 19.
