Academic and non-teaching staff members at Kyambogo University have been left torn apart after Museveni failed to fulfill a promise he made to them last year.

According to Dr Grace Lubaale, the out-going chairman of Kyambogo University Academic Staff Association (Kyuasa), president Museveni promised Shs 50b to cater for their salary enhancement and arrears for all academic staff in all public universities.

The academic registrar Makerere University has relased the private admission lists for the academic year 2016/2017, and freshers are reminded to pick their admission letters next week.

The semester for those admitted on private and governmnent sponsorship schemes will start on Aug 6, while, continuing students will repreport on Aug 15

The embattled research fellow who was working at Makerere Institute of Social Research (MISR) Dr Stella Nyanzi has landed on a new job in South Africa.

Nyanzi, who was found guilty of misconduct at MISR after she stripped naked to reclaim her office, something that saw her make headlines for weeks in Ugandan media, told journalism.mak.ac.ug in a Facebook message that she doubts whether she will ever return to Makerere, now that she has landed on greener pastures.

Thousands of refugees fleeing violence in South Sudan will have to wait a bit longer after their government ordered for the closure of land and air exits.

Among the blocked land exits is Nimule border that would bring about 50,000 internally displaced nationals into Uganda and neighboring countries.

To enforce this, troops have been deployed to block civilians
fleeing the war-torn Juba.

Last week, University Council Chairman Prof John Okedi confirmed that the search for a new
vice chancellor had been cancelled after divisions emerged over who was running for the position.
