Jackie Ayorekire the head of revenue at Makerere University has restrained the Guild Representative Councillors (GRCs) from making demands before fully clearing their fees.

During the new fees policy sensitization review meeting that was held from the senior council room yesterday, Ayorekire challenged the GRCs that proper service delivery from management requires funds.

"University council is reluctant to sit with a student who has not paid or registered" she said.

Samuel Mugarura, the Makerere University chemistry student who made teargas and claims he can make bombs has now unveiled things he will be doing in a period of six years from now.

Mugarura, who has since been in the limelight, has so far met with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kale Kayihura, wrote to prime minister RuhakanaRugunda informing him about the innovation and also claims the president wants  to meet him.

Doctors at South Africa-based Milpark hospital will tomorrow October 18 make a final decision on whether to carry out a surgery or liver transplant on Makerere’s literature professor, Abas Kiyimba.

Early this year, Prof Kiyimba’s veins ruptured, which forced blood to find alternative routes in his body. This led to the shrinking of his liver and excessive vomiting of blood. Doctors at Mulago hospital then referred him abroad for treatment.

Makerere University guild president Roy Ssembogga, has today morning said the news of Yosam Bagumirabingi's resignation as minister of Research and Computer Technology is still rumours to him.

" As the person in charge of appointments and reshuffles, I haven't been served with a copy of the resignation." Ssemboga said.

He further explained that if at all he is served with this letter, he will announce the position of his government on this.

The Makerere University 82nd guild speaker, Imram Kasujja, has today morning acknowledged the resignation of  Yosam Bagumirabingi as the Research and Computer Technology minister.

" I officially received his resignation letter and therefore he is no longer the ICT minister," Kasujja confirmed.

Yosam Bagumirabingi, the Makerere 82 guild minister of Research and Computer Technology shocked students yesterday when he submitted his letter of resignation from his position.

Bagumirabingi, which ironically translates to perseverance, failed to leave to the expectations of his name as be accused his boss Roy Ssemboga of greed for money and disrespect for his powers and office.

John Kamanyire, a first year student of economics at Makerere has petitioned the guild president, Roy Seemboga, over alleged increment of the student identity(ID) card fee by 200 per cent.

In his petition, Kamanyire argues that it's unheard of for a university ID to move from Shs 15,000 to 45,000 within a year.

Ssemboga promised to look into their matter as soon as possible, but declined to give more information about the issue.

Following the previous students’ strikes over what was termed as unfair policies, a new fees policy was put in place this academic year.

The university council also passed a new registration policy that requires students to register with the university within the first 10 weeks of each semester.

For the fees policy, each student is required to pay Shs 200,000 in the first three weeks of each semester. This amount is part of the total fees to be paid to the university.
