KAMPALA- Policemen backed by Military Police and UPDF officers were on Monday engaged in running battles with rowdy protesters in the Kampala among others areas who were demanding for immediate and unconditional release of Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine.

Bobi Wine was incarcerated in Makindye Military Barracks before the court martial dropped the charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunitions handing him to Civilian Court. Bobi Wine was later remanded to Gulu prison on charges of treason with other legislators.

The protests, who started from the notorious Kiseka Market later spread to other parts of downtown Kampala, including Old and New taxi parks, Nasser Road, Wandegeya, Mini Price, William Street, Kamwokya, Katwe, Makindye and Najjanakumbi among other areas.

Demonstrators lit old tyres and threw garbage in the road, demanding the release of Bobi Wine whom they say was badly tortured.

The protesters blocked Kyaggwe road and Police led by Kampala Central Police Station commander Joseph Bakaleke fired bullets and tear gas to disperse them.

The protests come a day after residents of Mityana on Sunday, August 19, staged a demonstration over the arrest and alleged torture of Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament Francis Zaake.
