Following the election of Dr. Aaron Mushengyezi, the acting head of the Department of Journalism and Communication (DJC), as the new dean for the School of Languages, Literature and Communication (SLLC), there is an inevitable need to fill the position of head at DJC. Dr. Mushengyezi polled 46 against 23 from his main challenger, Dr. Edith Natukunda Togboa. The position of the school Dean fell vacant in October, when the then dean, Dr. Ernest Okello Ogwang, was voted the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs (DVC AA), a position that had fallen vacant following the appointment of Prof. Lillian Tibatemwa Ekirikubinza, the then DVC AA as a Judge in the Court of Appeal. Dr. Mushengyezi has been head of DJC since 2012.
There are currently three PhD holders at DJC. These are Assoc.Prof. Goretti Nassanga, Dr. William Tayeebwa, and Dr. Patricia Litho. A head of Department should hold a PhD as a minimum requirement.
