Makerere Tear Gas, Bomb Innovator Writes To Prime Minister Rugunda

Samuel Mugarura, the third-year student of Bachelor of Science in botany (Chemistry) at Makerere, who made tear gas from sugar and promising to make bombs too, has written to Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda seeking support of government.

Mugarura has been making rounds on social and in mainstream media after he demonstrated his first successful teargas cannister last week behind Caltect Acamemy, a few metres from Makerere University.

Makerere University Now Ranked Third Best In Africa

From a mere technical school, Makerere University, which is Uganda’s oldest institution
of higher learning, has risen to become third in Africa in the latest World University Rankings.

Out of 980 institutions worldwide the University was, however, ranked in the band of 401-500 in the Times Higher Education (THE) World
University Ranking 2016-2017.

The University’s strongest pillar was citations where it was ranked in the third decile at a score of 78% while the weakest pillar was teaching.

Makerere Student Makes Tear Gas Out Of Sugar

Samuel Magarura aka Falcao, a fourth-year Chemistry student at Makerere University, has left his fellows surpised when he unveiled his new innovation of tear gas made from sugar.

Mugarura demonstrated the one-man innovation from Caltec Academy play ground today morning.

During the one-hour event, Mugarura said his IED tear gas is less toxic compared to the one being used by police nowadays.

He added that the tear gas is made up of ingredients that are at everyone's disposal, yet it's very effective.
