Go into politics and save your country, Muntu challenges Makerereans

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president, Gen. Mugisha Muntu has dared Makerere University students to join politics so as to save Uganda.

Speaking at the ceremony to declare the party’s flag bearer in the March 19th guild elections, at Nkrumah Hall grounds yesterday, Mr. Muntu warned students against leaving politics, thinking that a savior will come to Uganda’s rescue.

“This country is short of leadership but when many of you (students) get out of the gates of Makerere, you go to the corporate world and ignore politics”, he said.

NRM candidate kicked out of Mak guild race

Four candidates including NRM’s Boniface Mbabazi have been thrown out of the 2014 guild election race at Makerere University for lack of academic qualification.

Others include; Emmanuel Wanyama and Faisal Muyiga both from the School of Adult and Community Education, and Emmanuel Murungi from the School of Languages, Literature and Communication.

All these candidates are in their second year of study at the university.
Two others Ivan Bwowe (Law) and Andrew Mujinya (ICT) have been given up to tomorrow to have their fate determined.

13 nominated for Mak guild polls

The Electoral Commission at Makerere University has nominated 13 candidates for this year’s guild elections slated for 19th March 2014.

The Commission’s General Secretary, Harris Justus Akampurira said 14 candidates had picked nomination forms but only 13 managed to return them in time before closure on Saturday.

Mak guild polls set for March 19th

Makerere university students will vote for their guild president on March 19th.

In a statement released by the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Michael Byemero today, students will vote for their guild president on Wednesday March 19th.

Students will then vote for their representatives to the guild council (GRCs) on Friday 21st March.
The race is expected to be tighter; FDC’s Andrew Mujinya, DP’s Sarah Aseru and NRM’s Boniface Mbabazi will represent their parties in this race.

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and the Democratic Party have today fronted candidates for the guild presidential race following highly heated races.

Andrew Mujinya beat off competition from Lillian Aber, Chark Benson, Naula Bole Marjorine and Edgar Tushabe to bag the FDC ticket while Sarah Asera beat Calvin Bakulumpagi, Moses Mulira, and Ivan Bwowe to hold the DP ticket.

FDC primaries took place at Nkrumah and were presided over by Mr. Mugisha Muntu the party president while DP held theirs at the Guild canteen.

Mak elects new EC

Legislators in the Makerere University Guild Representative Council (GRC) on Friday voted a new five-member committee to organize the forth coming Guild elections that will see the replacement of the Adeke led regime.

The elected are Mr. Michael Byemero (pictured) of Nkrumah Hall, Margeret Najjuka (Mary Stuart), Akampurira Haris Justus(Nsibirwa), Yosia Mugume (Livingstone) and Michael Opoya l(Nsibirwa) to the positions of Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, General Secretary, Finance Secretary and Public Relations Officer respectively.

Mak guild elections set for next month

Makerere University students will vote for their leaders at the end of next month.

According to the statement released by the office of the dean of students dated February 7th, the elections will take place 50 days from February 8th.

“There shall be guild presidential, GRC and SCR elections within 50 days from 8 Feb 2014,” reads part of the statement that was pinned to all notice boards and copied to the Vice Chancellor and his deputies, wardens and the guild president.
