MULAGO WOMEN’S HOSPITAL TO CURB INFERTILITY PROBLEMS

Mulago specialised women and neonatal hospital has restored hope in childless mothers as it is meant to boost their fertility at a lower cost. The newly constructed Specialised Women and Neonatal Hospital offers services that boost fertility in women.

10-15% of the couples in Uganda cannot have children because of infertility complications. According to by Dr. Robert Busingye, the president of Uganda Fertility Society, many couples are increasingly having fertility challenges, 75% caused by infections and sexually transmitted diseases.

According to Emmanuel Ainebyoona, the Senior Public Relations Officer at the Ministry of Health, the money charged for fertility services at the specialized hospital are lower than at the private hospitals.

One of the nurses at the hospital who preferred anonymity says the facility is good and will enable childless mothers be able to carry children on their laps.

Nabakooza Anita, a childless wife of a five-year childless marriage from Kawempe says this is like a dream come true. She is glad the specialized hospital gives her an opportunity to have a child.

Intro-Vitro Fertilization is one of the many services at the hospital, and involves fertilisation of the male sperm with the female ovum outside the body.
