RE-OPENING OF MARY STUART CANTEENS STILL UNCERTAIN

The re-opening of the Mary Stuart Hall canteens remains uncertain as no one seems to have clear information about them. The former canteens were destroyed by a fire which broke out at this hall of residence in May this year, but the bidding process for new service providers seems shredded in uncertainty.

Renovation works have been done in the canteens, and the bidding process started last month but seems not concluded.

Mr. Kironde Henry, one of the custodians of this hall said “We are not yet sure on when the canteens shall be re-opened and where they will be. The only information we got regarding this issue were advertisements for those interested to bid.”

The chief custodian, Mr. Byomuhangi James had related information. “The canteens shall be re-opened but I am uncertain of the date,” said Byomuhangi. He adds that the issue is being handled by the university administration.

The hall chairlady, Ahumuza Yvonne on phone also told us she has no specific information about when the canteens will open. Right now, the recently renovated canteen area lies empty at the hall.

CHUSS Communications Officer, Ms. Hasfa Kabejja revealed that they only got letters from the Vice Chancellor to those administrators interested in this canteen business to express interest, but there has been no additional information since then.

Police findings indicated that the May fire that burnt sections of the hall was a short circuit from one of the canteens in the hall.
