Excitement Among Makerere Students Ahead of Pope’s Visit

Makerere University community and students at large are full of anticipations and excited ahead of Pope’s next week visit to Uganda.

Just like any other people in community, the youth and students are ready to put aside whatever they are to do and dedicate their three days to the Pope. Among many expectations, their high expectation is to share on the big blessing that the pope will carry.

According to Jenipher Achiro, a fourth year student at the institution hopes the Pope will bless the youth and their generation will be a different one.

“I also expect the Pope to teach us to improve morals that are decaying among the youth in Uganda,” Achiro said.

Just like her, the youth’s expectations are much more than what the old expect.

Muguda John, an economics student describes it as a good feeling to the young people who have missed the other popes.  They have created teams at the church 0f 30 people that will be able to meet and shake hands with the pope. In addition to their preparation, as the choir, they are organizing a music show that will be broadcast on TVs to remind people to prepare for the pope.

“The pope’s visit to Uganda is a great feeling for young people who have not been able to see the previous popes.”

Susan Kangye, a student of Statics, expects conversion of Christians and she tells her excitement ads to how she will get a chance that many are yearning for.

 “I expect conversion of Christians…to see the pope face to face so many have yearned for that chance.”

FR, Ddungu Josephat, the Chaplain  of St. Augustine church Makerere, emphasizes the pope’s visit as a spiritual visit and it should have a spiritual preparation forexample, he said the church is having a novena for 6 weeks as a way of preparation and he calls upon the youth to love God and make sure they go to kololo in large numbers and receives the popes blessings.

The pope is expected in Uganda at 4:50pm on Friday, November 27, 2015
