The Editor of the Makererean who was recently suspended by Makerere University, Frank Bwambale says his suspension is unfair and a sign of cowardice by the university.

"The whole logic behind my suspension is to do with censorship of my communication, where the administration wants stories that sell the image of the University," said Bwambale.

He defended himself that as a Journalism student, he has to report things as they are, backed by facts.

In a letter dated September 10th, the Vice Chancellor suspended Bwambale who doubles as chief editor of the Makererean, accusing him of authoring several anonymous messages on social media with the aim of hurting both the University's image, bringing university management and the fellow student leaders of the 84th students Guild Council into disrepute.

"I hereby suspend you from Makerere University with immediate effect until further notice," said the VC in the suspension letter.

He further said that the suspended student shall be invited for further discussion on a date to be communicated to him in due course by the university disciplinary committee.

John Okeya, a student from the Department of Journalism and Communication expressed fear since whoever comes out to practice his profession by writing against the University expectations is suspended.

Since this semester began, fifteen students have been indefinitely suspended and ten given last warnings by the university over alleged misconduct.
