Journalism and Communication students were on Friday left overjoyed after Vision Group promised to partner with the department to improve their skills in the profession.

This was said by Conan Businge the editor of the education section in the New Vision paper, who was on Friday April 15 speaking at the media expo organised by Net impact Uganda in partnership with the department of journalism and Communication.

Businge, representing Vision Group, was responding to a request made by Fred Kakooza a lecturer from the department, who had earlier requested that Vision Group, being a giant media house in the country, to help the students at Makerere to better their talents in the field of Journalism and Communication.

Kakooza said: “Most of our students are creative and have talents in all corners of media industry but they have limited chances to get exposed”

Businge promised Kakooza and the department at large that he is going to table and recommend the partnership in a meeting he will have with his bosses.

He further asked students to always attend media related events as they will help improve their skills, adding that: “However much students take such events for granted, it is through such events that are (students) exposed to the profession career.”

Kakoozaalso appreciated Net Impact Uganda’s move of partnering with the department, adding that “the strong relationship that has been built will help students realise their dreams.

At the expo, students under their umbrella Makerere University Journalism and Communication StudentsAssociation (MUJCA),showcased their skills in news anchoring, reporting and production. The presentation was in a recorded video form, and were in two languages; Luganda and English.

Charlotte Arinaitwe, a second year student on the program of Journalism and Communication, appreciated the presentation by her fellow students and appealed to those who missed to always attend because they (expos) are educative and of great value.

Other corporate companies and organisations that presented and showcased their products and services included:Centenary Bank, SPEDAG Interfreight, AIESEC and the New Vision.
