Works at the Makerere University Main have been quickened to allow its reopening soon.

Excel Construction Limited who are doing the work have increased the speed of work, and increased on the labour, including working extra-time.

This as the contractors target to finish all the works within one and have the gate fully operation. “The work will be finished in only three months and of which this is the second month. Therefore, by next month, we shall be through,” says Mambo Leonard, the co-engineer.

According to Mwesigwa Disan, one of the supervisors at the site, work is moving very well and they expect to finish within the remaining one month.

Works delayed partly because the original contractors, Chinese communications Construction Company could not work on the gate, and had to sub-contract Excel Construction to do the works.

The Chinese Communications Construction Company allegedly failed because it was a road construction company, according to the surveyor, Ismael Beng.

Excel took the responsibility in August 2018 and since then, there had been much effort towards finalizing of the work.

“Well, the construction has really delayed. We expected to come by from holidays when it is completed but to our dismay, the gate was re-opened and yet it was not yet finished. However, the speed they are using nowadays is good and I am really happy that finally it will be completed,” said Dainah Alagon, a student at the University.
