The delay in the renovation work at Nsibirwa hall washrooms has sparked off complaints and discontent among students residing there.

The work that was started a few weeks to the start of semester one, academic year 2018/19 has taken long, causing inconveniences to the students residing within the hall. According to sources, the state of affairs has disorganized and affected the normal lifestyle of the gents.

This is because they have to struggle for the few washrooms as opposed to their large numbers as most are being worked upon. Saul Tumusiime, a third year student of Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering and a resident of the hall says “the work has been too slow and yet the existing wash rooms are not enough.  This leaves us with no choice but to congest at our neighboring hall, Nkrumah and yet the distance is disturbing especially when one has to ease themselves.”

A visit to the hall shows the workers to be finishing cementing and plastering the damaged floors. However, gaps are still left in some of the washrooms as the work is sub-standard.

A worker who preferred anonymity revealed that the delay is due to delayed provision of resources by the university to enable effective completion of the work. He also added that the students at times walk on the cemented floors before they are done drying and this leaves the work in poor shape.

The unhygienic situation of the Nsibirwa washrooms, the clogging and flooded state they were in by the close of the second semester in May, prompted the university intervention in need to carry out renovation.

Residents now appeal to the university to handle the renovation a little faster because its continuous delay is a hindrance to the accessibility of washrooms.
