In an on-going health expo by Medical Missionary Movement Uganda (MMMU) at Makerere University, a health expert has expressed concern over people’s reliance on manufactured drugs, saying it’s a healthy threat.

Dr. Moses Mukundane, a doctor working with MMMU said that some chemicals used in drugs can damage some body parts, adding that the better way to live a healthy life is by using natural food stuffs and adopting health habits that can keep the body functioning normally.

“Most of the diseases people suffer from are symptoms of eating the wrong diet. Life threatening diseases such as cancer, kidney diseases, hepatitis diseases and heart diseases can stop if people have nutritious foods.

“Natural foods and good nutrition are a better medicine to preventing and controlling diseases than tablets,” Mukundane advised.

When asked what people should alternatively do as drugs are dangerous when used for a long period of time, Dr Mukundane said that good nutrition which includes eating a variety of vegetables, legumes, grains, seed crops can be a better dose for people who repeatedly fall sick as they provide body nutrients necessary to keep the body strong.

He also said: “Having good breakfast, moderate lunch and a very light supper, doing exercises, Sun bathing, having enough rest, are some of the habits that a person can adopt to ensure they live a healthy life.”

While observing that water is necessary in the body, Mukundane was first at restraining people from taking water while eating, saying that its affects the way food is absorbed in the body, and recommended that water should be taken an hour after taking a meal.

As a missionary, Mukumdane said that believing and trusting in God is very important when it comes to living a healthy life. He said that people who have God in their lives will always live longer because he is the source of life
